Minot
Eugene “Gene” Wald, 70, Minot, ND, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Eugene Allen Wald was born November 4, 1952, the son of John and Mary Ellen (Harmon) Wald, in Minot, ND. He was raised and educated in Surrey, ND, until 1964, when he and his family moved to Minot, ND. He graduated from Minot High School in 1971. After high school, he went into carpentry owning Wald Construction, building many houses in Minot.
In marriage, Gene had a son named, Dustin, in 1979. Gene also spent time as a beekeeper. He developed a special relationship with his three Nissen nephews working alongside them daily as beekeepers with Five Star Honey Farms.
Gene was a one of a kind, gentle-spirited man. He would take the shirt off his back for anyone! He kept our family together with everything he did, and he kept us on our toes. There was always a little mischievousness involved that had us in laughter or tears. He never wanted discontent. He enjoyed being an uncle and interacting with all his nephews and nieces.
Gene was a man of many trades. He was an expert carpenter in his day and either built houses or worked on our homes at one time or another. It wasn’t unusual to see him hopping around on stilts texturing the ceiling with his trademark swirl. Through his best of times up until his last days, he was never afraid to work…. and work hard no matter what he was doing. Gene was an avid gardener and loved life to the fullest from watching his garden grow to feeding the animals out in his backyard. He was a social butterfly and could often be found at the local bar sharing his garden vegetables and enjoying life.
We will always cherish the good times we had with him. His strong will and sense of humor as well as his humbleness will always be appreciated and respected. Until we meet again, we will miss you and forever love you as a brother and uncle.
Surviving family includes: son, Dusty (Jill) Wald and their two sons, Minot; brother, Jerald Wald, Minot; sisters, Nancy Wald, Minot, Peggy (Will) Nissen, Minot, Lori (Ralph) Fettig, Minot, Mary Beth (Jason) Votava, Minot; nieces and nephews, Aaron Wald, W.
