Darrel Gilseth 81, Minot, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

Darrel Leroy Gilseth was born August 26, 1942, the son of Clarence and Edna (Hallof) Gilseth in Minot. He was raised and educated in Mohall, where he graduated from Mohall High School in 1960.

On August 31, 1963, Darrel was united in marriage to Carol Dammen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where Darrel worked for Sweetheart Bakery.

On March 18, 1966, Darrel was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on March 15,1968. Following his discharge, he returned to Minot, and resumed working at the United States Postal Service. This was a career he enjoyed for 40 years before his retirement in 2007.

Darrel enjoyed the outdoors, doing yard work and was an avid fisherman. His favorite spots were Lake Sakakawea and Lake Darling. Darrel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He could often be found assisting his children with projects or lending a helping hand to a friend or anyone in need. He was also an excellent story teller, and was always willing to visit and make friends. Darrel loved spending time with his pet cats as well as watching old westerns on television.

His loving family includes: wife of 60 years, Carol

Children: Jeffrey (Melissa) Gilseth, Troy Gilseth, Holly (Josh) Hummel;

Five grandchildren: Alex Gilseth, Hannah Gilseth, Tia Hummel, Parker Hummel and Cameron Hummel;

Great-granddaughter: Ariel Gilseth;

Siblings: Roger (Val) Gilseth, Karen (Harold) Bowers; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral: Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
