Thomas “Tom” G. Shipman, 73, Bismarck, ND died peacefully on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

Tom was born April 24, 1950, in Ainsworth, Nebraska to Floyd and Shirley (Kalmbach) Shipman. As a young boy and teen, Tom lived and was educated in many places as his father served in the United States Air Force. These included Virginia, Florida, the United Kingdom, Texas, and finally, North Dakota.

Tom graduated from Minot high school in 1968 and attended Minot State where he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics.

Tom served two years in the United States Army in Washington DC after which he returned to Minot, ND. Tom dedicated his 30-year career to Job Service of North Dakota before retiring.

He married Mary Lou Joyce in 1975 and they raised their two children in Bismarck. Throughout his life, Tom enjoyed football, baseball, golf and bowling. Tom was known for his quiet goodness and generosity. He was a wonderful grandfather and was loved by his grandchildren deeply.

Surviving family includes his daughter, Michaela (Daniel) Keys, Roseville MN, son Kyle, Bismarck ND and two grandchildren Liam and Sloane Keys; his sisters, Pat (Bill) Flint and Sue (John) Schollmeyer; sister-in-law, Jan Shipman and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda and brother Jim.

A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2024 at the Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
