Minot

Monte Lee Lundy, 53, Minot, died August 19, 2023, in the Dunseith Nursing Home after a difficult and courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease.

Monte was born on May 12, 1970, in Minot, ND, the son of Joel and Bonnie (Wahl) Lundy. He attended grade school in Spokane, WA, and Minot, ND, then moved to Surrey where he attended junior high and high school. He continued his education in Wahpeton at the North Dakota State College of Science. It was in Surrey, where Monte met and was then married to Gail (Grilley) Lundy for 18 years. Monte’s greatest achievement was his son, Tyler Lee Lundy, who was born on June 14, 1988. Tyler inherited his father’s natural athleticism and excelled in sports, particularly baseball. Monte was beyond proud of his son and was, and will always be, one of his greatest supporters.

Monte had a love for engines and was employed as a mechanic for many years at Harry’s Tire Service and Westlie Ford Motor Co. in Minot. His true passion was racing, and he was well-known around the racetrack and Nodak Speedway. He spent countless hours with family and friends racing and fine-tuning his race car, #14. Monte was the 1993 Rookie of the Year at Nodak Speedway, in 2000 the Track Champion in Estevan, SK, and he also finished fifth that year at the Boone Super Nationals which is still the highest spot achieved in the modified division by any North Dakota driver.

Monte is survived by son Tyler (Clarissa) Lundy, Timnath, CO; father Joel Lundy, Minot, ND; sisters Jodi (Jay) Standish, New Town, ND; Shelby (Joshua) Lundy, Minot, ND; nephews Sheldon (Rayessa) Standish, Minot, ND and Braiden Standish, Minot, ND; niece Ezariah Rose Livingood, Minot, ND. Monte was blessed with numerous aunts and uncles but had a special connection with his Aunt Colleen Lundy, who was his biggest supporter throughout his life and illness.

Monte is preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Lundy, who also lost a hard-fought battle with Huntington’s Disease; and grandparents Kenneth and Laura Lundy and Reinhard and Winifred Wahl.
