Loren Hoiland, 77, Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Trinity hospital.

Loren Hoiland was born January 29, 1946, to Roy and Mabel (Amrein) Hoiland in Minot, ND. He spent his early years on the farm near Walseth, ND until the family moved to Minot where he attended Minot Public School.

Loren was employed with Job Corps for a number of years. After Job Corps, he had various occupations such as carpentry, mechanic and most currently was working in the moving and storage industry until retirement.

Loren and Susan Spicer were united in marriage in Minot, they moved to Burlington, ND where they raised their boys. The couple later divorced.

Loren enjoyed fishing with his boys especially on the waters of Lake Darling, Lake Audubon and Lake Sakakawea. Loren was very proud of his trophy fish, a 9lb 7oz walleye he hooked into on the east end of Lake Sakakawea. He enjoyed hunting as well. He holds the claim of harvesting the 9th largest deer in the state one year, he had the medal to show for it. Loren was a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan. He loved to talk all things purple. Loren also had the gift of gab and had a witty sense of humor. He was a very giving man, he’d do anything for anyone. He will be missed.

His loving family includes: his sons, Travis Hoiland and Troy (Sara) Hoiland; grandson, Chase Hoiland; brothers, Frank “Toby” (Angie) Hoiland, Roger Hoiland, and Eldon Hoiland; sister, Peggy (Ray) Mahle; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Shane, siblings, Judith Dintelman, Dorian “Ole” Hoiland, Russell Hoiland, Kenneth Hoiland; sister-in-law, Janice Hoiland; nieces, Lisa Mahle and Keri Lee Thorson; and nephew, Joshua Hoiland.

Memorial Service: Monday, July 18, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Chapel, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service.
