Boyd Erickson, 86, Minot, ND, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023, at Edgewood Vista Memory Care under the care of CaringEdge Hospice.

Boyd Howard Erickson was born November 3, 1936, the son of Emil and Betsy (Kolobakken) Erickson, in Minot. He was raised in the Douglas area on the family farm and educated at Hilton Township School.

He farmed on the family farm until 1955 when he moved to Minot and worked construction for several years. He worked for Voeller’s Furniture before going into the flooring business. Then in 1975 he went into the carpentry and maintenance business. He retired in 1998.

He married Kae Castleman on November 7, 1958. They made their home in Minot. They were blessed with three children, Bonnie, Helen, and Kyle.

Boyd and Kae enjoyed spending time together at their cabin at Pouch Point at Lake Sakakawea, canning, road trips to Montana or Minnesota, baking lefse for the Thanksgiving holiday. Boyd and Kae would get together with the girls around Christmas to bake Spritz and other cookies. Boyd and Kae loved attending softball games. Kae passed away October 31, 2012.

He was an incredible baker. He was well known for his Monster Cookies. He loved baking cookies for the MSU Beaver’s Women’s Basketball team. People who loved his cookies gave him the nickname, “Cookie Man.” He enjoyed NODAK Races, hunting and fishing. He also helped his children with several of their home remodel projects.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Minot. He always went to church with several packs of fruit snacks for his little friends.

His loving family includes: children, Bonnie (Brian) Freed, Minot, and their son, Tony (Kim Weismann) Freed, Bismarck, Helen (Richard) Walker, Minot, and their children Ryan Walker (Cassey Voigt), Minot, and Betsy (Bill) Ronsberg and their son, Walker, Barnesville, MN, Kyle (Aleesha) Erickson, Minot, and their children, Brock Erickson (Aubree Vendsel), Minot, and Carson Erickson, Minot; brother and sister-in-law, Vance and Arlene Castleman; sisters-in-law, Betty Erickson, Susan Erickson, and Gloria Castleman; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 53 years, Kae; brothers, Elvin Erickson and Arnold “Lolly” Erickson.

Funeral: Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
