Vernon Schoenberg

Vernon Oyd Schoenberg, 89, Mohall, died Friday, July 28, 2023, at a Minot hospital.

He was born April 20, 1934, in Fairview, the second child to Louis and Louise (Jantz) Schoenberg. He attended schools in Fairview, Loraine and Mohall through the eighth grade. He lived with an aunt and uncle in Minnesota where he worked for a munitions belt company during the Korean Conflict. He returned to the farm in North Dakota during the summers to help his dad with the farming.

Vernon was united in marriage to Verna Skaufel on Sept. 5, 1954. He worked several years as a lineman for Souris River Telephone and also farmed. He retired from SRT in the 1970s and went to farming and ranching fulltime. He never fully retired from farming.

Vernon was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, numerous hunting trips to Montana, watching basketball and old westerns. He enjoyed his first car, which was a 1951 Henry J. Vernon was a kind, generous person, always willing to lend a hand and help others whenever needed. He always had a smile and a quick-wit comeback. He will be missed by many.

Family: wife of 68 years, Verna Schoenberg, Mohall; children, Dean (Beth) Schoenberg, Mohall, Michelle (John Carton) Schoenberg, Minot, Sheldon (Diane) Schoenberg, Mohall, Tina (Bill) Ueckert, Bismarck; nine grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild; siblings, Berniece Skaufel, Minot, Rev. Lorance (Nellie) Schoenberg, Steilacoom, Wash., Rueben (Sandra) Schoenberg, Mohall; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Louise Schoenberg; son, Stuart Schoenberg; sister, Evangeline Guvakosky; niece, Sheila Guvakosky; and nephew, Steven Schoenberg; and brothers-in-law, Bill Guvakosky and Birger Skaufel.

Funeral: 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug, 5, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
