July 19, 1944-Aug. 10, 2023
Minot
Ronald Everson, 79, Minot, ND, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2023, in his brother’s home in Velva, ND, surrounded by his family.
Ronald (Ron) Everson was born July 19, 1944, in Minot, ND, to Elmer and Dina (Rorback) Everson. He was raised on the family farm near Simcoe, ND, a place he forever treasured. Ron attended school in Velva, ND, where he graduated from Velva High School in 1962. Following his graduation he attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, where he earned a degree in Accounting in 1964. He further pursued his college education by attending Minot State University, where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1967.
Ron married Gail Jensen on June 29, 1968. They made their home in Minot, ND. Through this union, they were blessed with two wonderful children, Brian and Lisa. Ron and Gail later divorced.
Ron started his career of 40 years with Souris River Telephone in June of 1967. He started as a Lineman Installer and through the years moved on to become an Installer/Repair Technician in the Construction Department and an Outside Plant Installer. Ron valued his 40 years with the company. He enjoyed the work, the people and most of all the customers. Ron retired from SRT in June of 2007.
Ron always had a passion for the family farm. He was eager to assist his brother Harold (Bud) with all types of farming activities. While Ron hung up his farming hat in 2004, the passion for farming never left his heart. On occasion, you could find him out on the farm helping if needed.
Following his retirement from SRT and farming, Ron started the job he loved and treasured the most, being a full-time grandpa and as Brian called it, a glorified Uber driver. He was Johnny on the spot when it came to ensuring his grandkids got to where they needed to go or sometimes just where they wanted to go. One could also say he was the “self” Uber driver that got himself to each and every event in which his amazing grandkids participated in. Ron never missed an event. You could always see that red Chevy truck in the parking lot and Ron with his khaki shorts and MSU or Minot High sweatshirt on. Ron always said it was not a job but a privilege to be able to do anything for his grandchildren. He displayed this each and every day, a father and grandfather who couldn’t be more proud of his family!
In his younger years Ron enjoyed a good snowmobile ride and day long outings with family and friends. He also enjoyed a good hunt, especially when it involved family. He was always there 100% of the time. Even if he didn’t have a license in hand, he was there to drive, keep his eyes open and just provide support.
Ron was a proud alumni supporter to Minot State, Wahpeton School of Science and the Velva Aggies. If you knew Ron, you could see his passion for these schools.
Ron was known for his smile, friendly handshake, compassion, offering up his chair to anyone who might need it, and being a true friend to anyone he met. Ron will be greatly missed by so many. We will forever hold him dear in our hearts.
Ron was a member of Stenkjaer Lutheran Church, Simcoe, Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, and the Eagle’s Club.
