Robert “Bob” L. Knudson, 86, of Minot, passed away on August 20, 2023 in a Minot hospital from the West Nile Virus.

Robert Lowell Knudson was a loving husband, dad and grandpa, as well as an accomplished architect, avid outdoorsman, and enthusiastic fisherman. He not only loved Minot but also planned and oversaw some of its recognizable features and structures. A loyal friend to many and a respected community member, he was known for his warmth, breadth of knowledge and creative solutions in his many personal projects at home and at Lake Audubon, where he spent his weekends for many decades. Bob excelled at everything he put his mind to, while always remaining a cowboy at heart.

Bob was born on July 26, 1937, a son of Lyle M. and Mildred C. Knudson, in Minot. He was raised and educated in Minot, where he graduated in 1955 from Minot High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Occupation of Berlin and was honorably discharged on January 31, 1963.

After returning to the U.S., Robert furthered his education, earning a BA in 1963 from Minot State University. Following his education, he taught within the Minot Public School system for two years.

On August 12, 1966, Bob was united in marriage to Connie J. Seibel in Minot, ND. The couple made their home in Minot, where Robert worked for Lee Ross and Bob Anderson architectural firm for six years. He then went to work for Warner Construction, of which he later became the owner/operator with a partner. He also held positions at Ryan Chevrolet, Municipal Services and Waste Management. In addition, at Coughlin Construction, he oversaw many projects, including the widening of South Broadway.

Bob was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Elks and Moose Lodge, Minot State University (MSU) Alumni Association, MSU Beaver Boosters, Minot Chamber of Commerce Board and GNDA Board. In addition, he was ND Cowboy Hall of Fame Trustee Chairman, Minot Trail Riders President and ND Association of General Contractors Vice-President. He also was on the Bremer Bank board of directors for more than 20 years.

Bob enjoyed traveling worldwide with his wife, Connie, including visits to China, Australia, Italy, Germany and elsewhere.

Wife of 57 years, Connie; sons Andrew (Collette Weiser) Knudson, Casey (Melisa) Knudson, Peter (Johannah) Knudson; grandchildren: Ozzie R. Knudson, Piper J. Knudson, Rafael Boyle and Daphne Boyle; siblings: Lyle (Martha) Knudson Jr., Carole (Emmett) Skreen, Marla Keller; in-laws: Curt (Pat) Seibel, Karen (Robert) Johnstad; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and mother and father-in-law Chester and Opal Seibel.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal as cremation has taken place, however, friends may sign a guest register on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorial Service: Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Graveside Service: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, at a later date.
