Her funeral will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Upham. Marjorie Mae (Byre) Teske was born June 12, 1941, in St. Andrews Hospital, Bottineau. She was the daughter of Henry and Edna (Brandt) Byre. Marjorie was raised on a local farm and educated in Kramer Elementary and High School, graduating with the class of 1959. She later attended Minot State Teacher’s College where she earned a degree in Elementary Education.

Marj (her preferred name) grew up on the farm near Kramer, ND. Marj was united in marriage to Darrell Teske on July 1, 1961, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Bottineau. Soon after marriage, they relocated to Ft. Lewis, Washington while Darrell served in the Army National Guard. After returning, they made their home on farms near Kramer and finally near Souris. They have two children, David and Nancy. Marj taught elementary grades in the Newburg / Westhope schools, was a home maker and partner with Darrell on their Rocking D Ranch, specializing in Black Angus cattle. She loved animals and especially cats. She was great at names for most of them too!

But Marj’s true passion was Art. She never met an art book or art brush she didn’t like! She truly had a talent for art and especially in oil paints. She gave many of those to friends and family and sold some too. Her passion carried over to teaching and sharing her art talents with others. She especially liked to teach kids, so she started the ‘Studio On The Prairie’ to facilitate that. Some of her student’s works won local and even state awards. She continued her talents into retirement up to the last several months.

Marj was a long time member of Bethlehem/St. John Lutheran Church, Russell. She was active in church Newsletter. Marj will be remembered for her strong faith, works of art, love of animals, great cook and a gentle spirit.

Marj was preceded in death by her parents, and in-laws Gail and Phoebe Teske, Harvey and Mitzi Teske.

Marj is survived by her husband Darrell of 62 years, Good Samaritan Center, Bottineau; son David (Karen) Teske of Westhope and daughter Nancy (Marvin Stevens) Teske of Brooks, Alberta, Canada; Grandchildren Nathanial (Cierra) Teske, Sarah (Lipetzky) Gildea, Joshua (Erika) Raes, Sierra (Nick) Toews, Taylor (Kayla) Teske, Jade (Brody Myers) Teske, and ten great grandchildren; sister Yvonne Moos, Grand Forks; brothers Alvin Byre, Roseau, MN; Wayne (Claudia) Byre, Walford, IA. niece, Judy Teske and nephew, Brad Teske.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers and plants the family request donations be given to Newburg or Westhope Schools art program.
