Laurel Livingston, 91, Granville, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, at ProHealth Assisted Living facility in Minot.
Laurel Elaine Smesrud was born July 16, 1932, the daughter of Selmer and Mina (Wolhowe) Smesrud, in Carpio, ND. She was raised and educated in Carpio and Granville.
Laurel married Herbert Livingston in Granville, on November 17, 1950, sharing 70 wonderful years of marriage before Herbert’s passing on October 31, 2020. Throughout the years they resided in Granville, Cando, Staples, MN and Minot.
Laurel enjoyed working several jobs over the years, including at the Granville Grocery store, the Model Café, Westland Oil Company, cook at the Granville school, secretary at the Eagles Club, and bookkeeper at Gaffaney’s of Minot.
Laurel was a member of Hope Congregational Church in Granville, Hope Congregational Church Women’s Society, Birthday Club, Senior Citizen’s Group, and the Minot Shrine Auxiliary.
Throughout the years, Laurel enjoyed gardening and canning, cooking and baking, music, Yahtzee games, card games, and spending time with family, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and always had a fresh pot of coffee and baked goods when neighbors, family or friends stopped by.
Laurel was also an avid Twins fan. All in attendance at the funeral are invited to join her in this love by wearing Twins gear.
Her loving family includes: Daughters, Kathy Livingston (Billy Joe), Fargo, ND, Lorrie (Paul) Merkel, Minot, Patty (Earl) Tignor, Mechanicsville, VA; 13 grandchildren, Tricia Livingston, Abi (Austin) Vachal, Dawn (Brock) Kavlie, Andrea (Shawn) Roedocker, Tuesday (Shaun) Munsch, Shannon Lipio, Danny (Kara) Shea, Jenna (Cody) Grindberg, Matt (Nicky) Merkel, Steven (Ileah) Merkel, Travis Tignor (Carrington), Courtney Byrd and Cody Tignor; 38 great-grandchildren; sister in law Joyce Freidig, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins Laurel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Cynthia Livingston; brother, Pat Smesrud; sister Frances Loftesnes; brothers-in-law Carl Loftesnes, John Freidig, and Ralph Ekstrom; and sisters-in-law Marlys Smesrud and Bethel Ekstrom.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at ProHealth Assisted living for all their loving care during her stay and including her as part of their family.
Memorial Service: Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Hope Congregational United Church of Christ in Granville.
Visitation: Friday, August 18th from 5-7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment will take place at Granville Community Cemetery after the service.
Memorials: are preferred to Hope Congregational Church, Granville.
