Helen “Gussie” Bistis, 89, Minot, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, in a rural Minot residence.

Helen Lillian Bistis was born December 6, 1933, the daughter of Gustus and Verna (Walker) Bistis, in Minot. She was raised and educated in Minot.

Her strength came from her music and her beautiful voice. She loved ice skating, plants, music, decorating, the little children that brought her so much joy, shopping with Della Mae, and going to get an ice cream. She loved every day. Every day was a blessing being with her sister, Donna. She said many times that the two of them were so fortunate to have the years together. She would say, “There is no greater joy than the love of a child, I love the grandchildren. That’s what made me want to go on!”

She mentioned she was so fortunate to have her extended family, Jennifer, Brian, and Scott, and their children, Coulter, Cedric, Ced Riece, Chauncey Mae, and Cambree, and the “Grandbabies” who opened their home up to her.

Her loving family includes: sister, Donna Bistis, Minot; and numerous cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her parents.

Private Family Funeral: Monday, August 28, 2023, at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to Trinity Hospice.
