Habitat for Humanity receives Wells Fargo grant

The Wells Fargo Foundation has awarded a $15,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity Northern Lights to repair and renovate a home in Minot. On Thursday, Wells Fargo volunteers will join the Northern Lights team to prepare the home for interior paint and flooring. They also will provide lawn care and tree maintenance.

At least one in nine North Dakota households spend more than half of their income on housing, and the number of Minot families who are struggling to afford rent is on the rise, according to Habitat for Humanity. The funding to Habitat for Humanity Northern Lights, along with the support of Wells Fargo volunteers, will help repair and renovate a Habitat home in Minot.

“This home in the Souris River Valley neighborhood is handicap accessible and would be perfect for someone with mobility challenges,” said Roxy Volk, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Northern Lights. “We’re currently searching for a family to purchase the home, which we expect to be complete by the end of the year.” For criteria information, email minot.habitat@hotmail.com.

The funding is part of a $7.5 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International through the 2023 Wells Fargo Builds program to build and repair more than 350 affordable homes nationwide. For three decades, Habitat for Humanity and Wells Fargo have worked together to increase access to affordable homes and homeownership.
