Arlene Shipman, 85, Garrison, formerly of Minot, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Benedictine Living Center with her loving family by her side.
Arlene was born November 24, 1937, the daughter of Adolf and Myrtle (Anderson) Stokke, in Minot. She was raised and educated in Granville.
Arlene married William Lazier. They were blessed with three children, Cheryl, Brian, and Marie. They later divorced.
She cooked and drove the school bus for Granville Public School for many years. She also had multiple jobs throughout the years.
She married Wayne Shipman in Las Vegas, NV on March 12, 1980. They made their home in Granville and farmed in the Simcoe area. On the farm Arlene drove the grain truck, helped during the combine season, and would bring meals to the field. They continued farming until moving to Minot in 1992.
Wayne and Arlene enjoyed camping and fishing. They made many trips to Parshall Bay and Lake Audubon. During these times was when Arlene got the name, “Margarita Mama.” Arlene loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was never afraid to take them out in public by herself. They always had great adventures together. The grandchildren have many stories to tell and have memories that will last forever.
Arlene enjoyed playing pool, throwing darts, and crafting. She made many cross-stitch pictures which she shared with family and friends.
Wayne passed away November 23, 2008.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Eastern Star, and helped with the Shriners.
Her loving family includes: Children: Cheryl Lazier, Bismarck, Brian (Janet) Lazier, Washburn, Marie (Danny) Mueller, Minot; Grandchildren: Brianna (John) Sayler, Chelsey (Dana) Brandt and children, Elliott and Brystal, Brandon “Buddy” Lazier, Jayme (Cedric) Smith and children, Kainen and Oakley, Erik Berland
Extended Family includes: Daughters, Linda (Harry Cook) Duchscherer, Outing, MN,
Colette (Paul) McConville, Outing, MN; Grandchildren, Derek (Seannah) Duchscherer and children Jack and Paigee, Cole (Dana) Duchscherer and children Hadley and Tucker, Broc (Kacie) McConville and children, Blayke and Declan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; Wayne; siblings Mary Ann Widmayer, Andrew Stokke, and Donny Stokke.
Funeral: Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Granville Community Cemetery, Granville.
Visitation: Monday from 4-6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: are preferred to American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
