Rita Engelhard, 80, Garrison, formerly of Minot, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Benedictine Living Community, Garrison.

She was born April 6, 1943, the daughter of Isador and Alice (Linnertz) Engelhard, in Minot. She attended a country school through eighth grade, then graduated from Westhope High School in 1961.

Following graduation, Rita moved to Minot and worked at Monarch Concrete and Eat More Sausage until 1962 when she moved to Minneapolis. She attended IBM school at Gale Institute, majoring in key punching. After passing the Civil Service test, Rita moved to Fort Smelling to work as a key punch operator. She received an outstanding award in key punching. She worked at Fort Smelling for three years, then transferred to Minot Air Force Base. She worked at Minot Air Force Base for over ten years before being medically retired.

Rita was a member of St. Leo’s Church. She enjoyed working with the Catholic Women’s Auxiliary, helping with funeral dinners and many other events. She had a strong faith and her involvement with the church was very important to her and brought her comfort and peace.

Rita was a very loving and caring woman, always checking to see how her loved ones were doing. She had a wonderful sense of humor.

Her loving family includes nieces, Cindy, Sherri, Candace, Shelley, Kim, Charlene, Colette, Connie, Corrinne, Lonna; Nephews, Curt, Tige, Lance, Layne, Ladd; brother-in-law, Jack Savelkoul; sister-in-law, Audrey Engelhard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Elmer Engelhard; sisters Marian Engelhard, Theresa Savelkoul, and Darlene Richter; brother-in-law, Adam Richter.

Mass of Christian Burial: July 27, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Foxholm.
