Reverend Roy A. Erdahl, 76, rural Butte, ND, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva.
Roy Albert Erdahl, son of Bert and Mildred (Robbestad) Erdahl, was born September 6, 1946, in Bellingham, WA. He grew up in Ferndale and Tacoma, Washington. Roy graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran High School, Fergus Falls, MN in 1964.
On August 17, 1968, Roy married Diane Skavlem at Hope Lutheran Church in Tacoma. Roy earned degrees from Tacoma Community College and Western Washington State College, then moved to Fergus Falls, where he graduated from the Lutheran Brethren Seminary.
Roy’s life was dedicated to serving the Lord. He was ordained as a minister at Sidney Lutheran Brethren Church, Sidney, MT. He served at Calvary Lutheran Brethren Church, Tacoma, WA; Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot; Grace Lutheran Brethren Church, Bottineau; Good Shepherd Lutheran Brethren Church, Buda, TX, New Life Lutheran Church, Minot. He was currently serving at United Methodist Church in Drake and Martin United Methodist Church. Roy ministered as chaplain at the McLean County Jail in Washburn, ND, as well.
Roy’s life was God’s ministry. He enjoyed riding and reining horses, riding motorcycles, and talking about cars.
Roy is survived by Diane, his wife of 55 years; three children, Sheila (Leon) Kolschefski, rural Butte, Rod Erdahl (LaCosta), Lakeland, FL, Naomi Erdahl (Dani), Bismarck; grandchildren, Micayla Erdahl (fiancee, Bryce Florence), Bethany, Emily, & Matthew Kolschefski, Caitlin & Gage Jons, Kyle Collins; five siblings: Marion (Art) England, Ronald (Linda), Dennis (Neota), Joel (Katie), Michael (Bonni), nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Roy was preceded in death by parents, Bert and Mildred, brother, Marvin, father and mother-in-law, William and Elsie Skavlem and extended family.
Celebration of the Life of Pastor Roy Erdahl: Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. in Our Redeemer’s Church, Minot. A livestream of the service will be available by using the link in the website obituary.
Visitation: Monday from 3-5 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy or the Lutheran Brethren Seminary.
