James Larson, 83, Kenmare, ND, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, in his home.
James Louis Larson was born March 21, 1940, the son of Louis and Irene (Brekke) Larson, in Karlstad, MN. He was raised and educated in Strandquist, MN where he attended all of his schooling eventually graduating from Strandquist High School. During his schooling years he excelled in all sports especially basketball and was considered by many one of the best players in the state of Minnesota.
After graduation he went on to work for Newfolden Grain Elevator and then Warren Grain and Seed where he had moved his way up to manager. When Jim’s father decided to retire from farming Jim decided to buy the family farm which he owned and operated. At the same time he also decided to become a grocery store owner. Later in his life he worked road construction for Border States Paving Company.
He was united in marriage to Louise Gehringer on December 23, 1990, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Mohall, ND. They made their home on a farm in rural Kenmare for over 20 years before they decided to move into Kenmare.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kenmare and a former member of Zion and Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN.
Jim enjoyed woodworking and was able to construct the big wooden cross inside the Trinity Lutheran Church. He loved going to the casino, but most of all loved watching sports. His TV was always on some kind of sport but he especially loved attending local sporting events.
His loving family includes: wife of 32 years, Louise; sons, Darwin Larson, Donovan (Colleen) Larson; stepchildren, Jeff Marmon, Bob (Mary) Marmon, Jody (Ginny) Marmon, Kim (Kathy) Marmon; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Larson; sister, Janice Nelson along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter Reva Brekhus, grandsons Brady Brekhus and Harley Brekhus daughter-in-law Nanette Larson.
Funeral Service: Monday, July 24, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare.
Interment: A burial will take place at a later date at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Strandquist, MN.
Visitation: Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials: Are preferred to the family.
