Evelyn Matehs

April 8, 1924-June 24, 2023

Upham

Evelyn A. Matehs, 99, Upham, was called Home by her Lord, Friday, June 30, 2023, at Eventide Nursing home in Moorhead, MN.

Evelyn A. Herschlip was born April 8, 1924, the daughter of Oscar and Ida (Urban) Herschlip, near Upham, ND. She was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Upham. She was raised and educated in Pratt Township, graduating from Minot High School in 1942.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Victor Matehs on June 24, 1944, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They resided in Minot for three years before having an opportunity to get back on a farm near Glenburn. In 1956, they purchased the current Matehs farm where they raised their family, Registered Herefords and farmed small grains. They farmed together doing the work side by side, every step of the way. Springs work would find her bringing meals to the fields and running after fertilizer and/or parts. Harvest time you would find her in her JD combine. She operated combines for over 70+ years. Victor passed away September 17, 2011.

Evelyn was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, including Busy Bee, Homemakers, and LWML for many years. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, mowing lawn, hunting upland game, gardening, family gatherings, playing cards, and arrow head hunting. If she knew you were coming to visit, she would make your favorite meal or baked item. Her recipe for longevity: A strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Trust in your partner.
