Debra Volk, 72, Minot, ND, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Miller Pointe Nursing Home, Mandan.

Debra Lee Hausauer was born April 5, 1951, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Sparrow) Hausauer, in Bismarck. She was raised on the family farm 16 miles north of McClusky. She graduated from McClusky High School in 1969 and Minot State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1972. Following graduation, Debbie taught in Sheyenne and Towner.

Debbie married Gary Volk on August 31, 1974. They made their home in Jamestown where she worked at The Crippled Children’s School. They were blessed with three children, Cory, Eric, and Sara. From 1980-1992, Debbie stayed home with the children, ran an in-home daycare, and substitute taught. In 1992, Debbie began teaching at Nedrose School where she worked until her retirement in 2016. Gary passed away January 19, 2014.

Debbie was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and was part of the women’s group. She was a member of DKG, Auxiliary, and book club.

She enjoyed traveling and reading. She loved to watch the Twins games and attend her grandkids’ activities. Debbie was a collector of nativities, collecting over 100. Those attending services are invited to take a nativity home with them.

Her loving family includes children, Cory (Anne) Volk, Bismarck, Eric Volk, Mandan, Sara (Chris) Laite, Devils Lake; grandchildren, Alaina, Kaitlyn, and Noah Volk, Shae Ann (Derek) Weinreis, Camryn Volk, and Egan and Talia Laite; great-grandchild, Reece Weinreis; brothers, Ed (Betty) Hausauer, Minot, Steve (Dell Rae) Hausauer, Kief, Jim (Patty) Hausauer, Fargo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Monday, July 10, 2023 at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

Visitation: Friday from 6-7 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Friday at 7 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Deb wished for donations to be made to St. Joe’s Catholic School in Devils Lake, Legacy Student Ministries at Legacy Methodist Church in Bismarck, and the ND 4-H Foundation.
