Evelyn Maier, 101, Minot, ND, died Thursday, June 15, 2023, in a Minot nursing home.

Evelyn Emma Lena Henke was born on March 2, 1922, a daughter of Henry and Bertha (Gieske) Henke, in Hannover. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Hannover. November 4, 1945, Evelyn was united in marriage to Arnold Maier at St. Peters Lutheran Church. They took over the family farm, until 1970 when they moved to Bismarck. Arnold died following 68 years of marriage on February 22, 2014.

Evelyn was an excellent seamstress, from wedding dresses to quilts. She enjoyed writing poems, baking cookies, and collecting porcelain dolls and birds. She was a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir. She was active in VFW, Amvets, and DAV Auxiliary.

Evelyn is survived by:

daughter, Gayle Lee, Minot; son, Gary Maier, Center; six grandchildren, Annette (Paul) Foss, Minot, Anthony (Christy) Lee, Westhope, Shelly (Chad) Portscheller, Bismarck, Wendy (Jason) Hausauer, McClusky, Scott (Miranda) Maier, Center, and Shayla (Joe Bornemann) Maier, Center; great-grandchildren; Dalton, Hannah, & Logan Foss; Mannix, Kirby, & Luella Lee; Adan & Abigail Portscheller; Jaxston & Tanner Hausauer; Carson & Carter Maier; Berkley Bornemann; daughter-in-law, Shirley Maier; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arnold; son-in law, Jackie Lee; great-grandson, Paxton Lee; siblings, Alfred, Lester, Kenneth, Keith, Malinda, Hulda, and Mildred.

Visitation: Tuesday, June 20, 2023, one hour prior at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Minot.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Minot.

Graveside Service: Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 3 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
