Viola Hosie, 88, Surrey, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at a Minot hospital.

Viola was born on August 25, 1934, in Bismarck, ND to Clayton and Gladys (Walker) Little. Clayton passed away when Viola was a very young child and Gladys would remarry Robert Butler. The couple would raise Viola and her siblings in Regan, ND.

After graduating from high school, Viola would eventually dedicate herself to raising her six children in Surrey. For a time, she also worked at the airport cafe in Minot.

Viola was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother who loved her family very deeply. She loved babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever she could. Viola also loved cooking and baking and had quite the sweet tooth. She always had cats and kittens and loved her current two companions, Izzy and Snoop.

Outside of family interest, Viola also loved going to flea markets and rummage sales. She enjoyed playing bingo and visiting casinos. At home, Viola had a large Coca-Cola memorabilia collection and enjoyed her rock and waterfall garden. She loved watching TV, especially soap operas, playing find-a-word puzzles, and keeping tabs on family and friends on Facebook even if she was technologically challenged.

Viola was a member of the Surrey Senior Center and the Sons of Norway.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel in Minot. No burial is scheduled at this time. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 4, from 5-7 at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the Surrey Senior Center.
