Ronald Lee Burgard, 64, Minot, ND, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023, at a Fargo Hospital.

Ronald L. Burgard was born May 7, 1958, in Harvey, North Dakota, to Leo and Alice (Pfeifer) Burgard. He was the oldest of seven children. Ron was raised and educated in Minot, ND.

Ron married Valerie Mahle on September 29, 1979, in Minot, ND. They made their home in many remodel project homes in Minot and the surrounding areas. Ron often said if he finished the house they had to move. He was a carpenter and contractor by trade. First working for Mattson Construction and then in the early eighties beginning his own construction company, R.B. Construction. It was through his company that he came into contact with so many people. Ron was always willing to keep friends and family in a job working for him. His payday advances were probably the big draw.

Ron and Val welcomed two daughters, Jessica and Becky. Ron was a great girl dad. He taught his daughters to work hard, be self-reliant, and to do math. He was very proud of their accomplishments. Once his daughters left the house to go to college Ron found two female German shorthair pointer dogs to work with him. Raz and Mini were his shadow for years. Once his three granddaughters came along, he had enough girl experience to tackle a second generation of raising girls. Ava, Ella, and Addison were his buddies, and he could never pass up an opportunity to spend time with them.

Ron and Val enjoyed their cabin at Strawberry Lake recently completing construction on the log cabin Ron always envisioned there. The family spent many summer weekends at the lake. Ron had a good sense of humor and loved to tease people. It was hard to take him anywhere because he knew someone everywhere a person went and needed to stop to visit for a minute. Even though Ron’s life was much shorter than any of us anticipated, we take comfort in the fact that he lived how he wanted to. He will be greatly missed but lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Ron was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Minot, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.

His loving family includes: his wife Valerie; children: Jessica (Travis) Klein, Minot; and Becky (Bryan) Banfill, Ohio; grandchildren, Ava, Ella, and Addison Merchant, Minot; brothers, Gary Burgard, Minot, and Dale Burgard; sister-in-law, June (Kris) Spaulding, Granville; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Peggy) Mahle, South Dakota; Michael (Amber) Mahle, South Dakota; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ron was predeceased in death by his parents, Leo and Alice Burgard; his father-in-law Arne Mahle, and mother-in-law Valda Mahle; his brothers, Larry Burgard, Bruce Burgard, and Leo Burgard; his sister Deborah Burgard.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, May 5, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
