Genevieve Stewart, 84, Minot, died Thursday, May 4, 2023, in a Minot assisted living center.

Genevieve Evelyn was born on February 14, 1939, in Minot, ND to Leonard and Eugenie (Ness) Olson. She was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School. As a young adult she was employed at McCurdy’s Restaurant.

Genevieve married Willie Stewart on February 3, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in the communities associated with the air force bases where Willie was stationed which included three tours of duty in Minot as well as in Great Falls, MT; Panama City, FL; Neu Ulm, Germany and Tillamook, OR. While residing in Minot and after the children were grown, Gen was employed at Home of Economy and Herbergers. Following Willie’s retirement in 1975 they made their home in Minot. Willie died on May 4, 2003. Genevieve had continued to reside in Minot most recently at Edgewood Vista.

Genevieve was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot and especially enjoyed sewing, cooking, tinkering and traveling.

Genevieve is survived by her children: Gayle Varty of Pierre SD, Tony (Nancy) Stewart of Burlington and Steve (Sue) Stewart of Colorado; grandchildren: TJ Stewart, Travis Stewart, Matthew Stewart, Natasha Haugen, Seth Varty and Coleman Varty; great grandchildren: Aiden, Isaac, Ian, Ella Aubrey, Asher, Treyton, Mason, Amiley, Hunter and Brekyn; siblings: Clarence (Carolyn) Olson of Moorhead, Linda McEown of Minot and Bonnie (Kevan) Moore of Mt. Vernon Ohio and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband: Willie, parents, grandson: Luke Stewart, brother: Roy Olson, brother-in-law: Mike McEown, nephew: Gary Olson and niece: Shawn.

Celebration of the Life of Genevieve Stewart: Friday, May 19, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. A livestream of the service is available by using the link in the website obituary.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday from 6-8 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
