Gene Skalicky

Gene Skalicky, 77, of McGregor, ND passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Tioga Medical Center in Tioga, ND.

Gene was born on August 8, 1945, to Victor Skalicky and Elsie Rouse in rural Burke County, ND. At age 12 Gene lost his father, Victor, and was graciously taken in by LeRoy and Arline Jensen of Powers Lake. Terry Slotsve also lived with LeRoy and Arline, the two were like brothers, and graduated from Powers Lake High School together. After high school, Gene was drafted into the Army and was honorably discharged on October 12, 1967. On June 15, 1969, Gene married the love of his life, Lynnette. They spent 53 years at each other’s side. 38 of those years were spent working at Hess Corporation.

Later in life Gene and Lynnette were blessed with two children, Scott and Holly. In 1998 two more blessings entered his life, his granddaughters Marissa and Megan were born. In 2001 more grandchildren entered the world, Dale and Maura. Mazzie was the last to be born, and in 2006 his family was complete.

Gene loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. On hunting trips, you could find him with a fox red labrador, his favorite breed. He also enjoyed sports and was known to follow his grandchildren around the state to attend their games. When he wasn’t watching local sporting events, you could find him cheering on the Minnesota Vikings.

Gene is survived by his wife, Lynnette Skalicky; sister, Betty Evans; children, Scott Skalicky (Jessica) and Holly Mills (Todd Mikkelson); grandchildren Marissa Skalicky, Megan Mills, Dale Skalicky, Maura Mills, and Mazzie Mills.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Elsie.

Gene’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor, ND. Pastor Mike Olson will officiate.
