Margaret Stenberg

Minot

Margaret (Kane) Stenberg passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023, in Minot, North Dakota.

Margaret was born July 7th, 1926, in Alliance, Nebraska. She was the third of four children raised by John Henry “Jack” Kane and Mary “Ruth” (L’Esperance) Kane and was their last surviving child. Margaret’s parents prioritized education and proudly sent all of their children, including Margaret, through high school and on to higher education in the 1940s.

Margaret attended school at St. Agnes Catholic Academy in Alliance, NE. She then attended college at Loretto Heights Women’s College in Colorado Springs, CO, where she earned a degree in dietetics and went on to complete an internship in New York City, NY, in the Hell’s Kitchen area. She grew fond of speaking of her time in New York during her final years. After Margaret’s internship she returned to Alliance, NE, where she then followed her sister to Minot, ND, to establish a career at St. Joseph’s Hospital. In Minot, she met the love of her life, Arland “Shorty” Stenberg at a young adult’s group at First Lutheran Church in Minot. They were married shortly after in Alliance and returned to Minot to begin growing their family.

Margaret continued to work as a dietitian at St. Joseph’s Hospital as they raised their children, Paul, Mary, John, Peter, and Renee. She guided her children in life and in faith as they grew up near Little Flower Catholic Church and entered school. The family traveled often to attend their children’s various activities.

Margaret was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a passionate genealogist in her retired years learning of family history many generations past. She enjoyed baking for family and friends and was an involved member of Our Lady of Grace Church. After moving to The Dakota Terrace Senior Apartments, Margaret enjoyed spending time in the community room playing bridge, scrabble, puzzles, and other group activities with the other residents.

Margaret is survived by her loving family including: son, Paul Stenberg of Woodbury, MN; daughter, Mary and husband Calvin Sikorski of Regina, SK, and their daughter Rachel Sikorski and fiance Tanner Kehler; son, Peter and wife Carol Stenberg of Minot, ND, and their children; son, Jason and Carrie Bennett and their children, Easton, Jayda, Presley, and Braxtyn; daughter, Heather and Todd Gefre and their children, Laikyn Zietz, Ryker Zietz, and Breckyn Zietz; daughter, Kaitlyn Stenberg; son, Kyler Stenberg; daughter, Renee Stenberg of Minot, ND; John and Shelly’s daughters both of Minot, Jordan Marie and husband, Jordan Pederson and their children Rivers, Rhodes, and Arbor; Jade and her husband, Taylor Opp and their daughter, Grace Stenberg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
