Patrick McNally, 76, longtime Minot educator, coach, administrator and friend, passed away

Friday, March 10, 2023, in his home under the care of hospice.

Patrick Wayne McNally was born November 6, 1946, the son of Raymond and Geraldine

(Fegley) McNally, in Fargo, ND. He was raised and educated in Lisbon, ND, graduating from

Lisbon High School in 1964. He then attended Minot State College and graduated with a

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 1968. While attending MSU, he was a member of Sig

Tau Fraternity, the Letterwinners M Club, and participated in both football and baseball. His

1965 MSU baseball team was inducted in the MSU Hall of Fame in October of 2019.

Pat was united in marriage to Arlene Wehrman April 22, 1967. They made their home in

Garrison, where Pat taught physical education and was the football coach at Garrison High

School from 1968 to 1973.

In 1973, he took the Athletic Director/Football coach positions at Bishop Ryan High School. He

started out as the Dean of Students and later served as the principal. He received his Master’s in

Education from Northern State University in Aberdeen in 1977. As a coach, he guided his

football team to a Class B State Championship in 1994. That same year, he was awarded the ND

Class B Coach and A.D. of the Year.

In 2001, he took the Activities Director position for Minot Public Schools, a position he held

until 2013, when he retired. During his time as A.D. for MPS, he was awarded the 2007 ND

Class A Athletic Director of the year and was inducted into the NDIAAA Hall of Fame in 2013.

He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, the ND Athletic Directors

Association, the MSU Old Main Society and was a lifetime member of the MSU Beaver

Boosters. In the past, he served on the YMCA Board of Directors, the Sertoma Club, and the

NDABI Board of Directors.

He enjoyed riding motorcycle, attending many sporting events and the annual McNally family

reunion at the lake. His favorite past time was attending activities and games of his grandchildren

and letting them know how proud he was of them. He also loved to visit with former students,

athletes and colleagues to hear the stories of their lives, careers and families.

His loving family includes: daughter, Tami McNally of Minot; sons, Chad McNally (Maggie

Larramendy) of Minot and his children, KaSara (Bobby) Sugg, Shaley McNally (Kade

Lindquist) and Regan McNally; and Ryan (Denbea) McNally of Minot, ND, and their son,

Logen McNally; great-grandchildren, Halle and Briar Sugg; brothers, Jack (Kay) McNally,

Jenks, OK, Dick (Mary Lee) McNally, Kalamazoo, MI, and Mike (Jan) McNally, Lisbon, ND;

brother-in-law, Allan Wehrman (Rhonda Campbell) of Ambrose, ND; sister-in-law, Wanda

Wehrman of Williston, ND; and 14 nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces, great-nephews

and cousins.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene (who passed away April 30, 2011); sister,

Mary Ann Jones; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mick and Jeanette Wehrman; brother-in-law,

Dennis Wehrman and nephew, Jamie Wehrman.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle

Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to the McNally Family Endowment at Minot State University, Minot

Public Schools Foundation, and Bishop Ryan High School.
