John Lee Udseth, 62, Rugby, died on Friday morning, March 3, 2023, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby ND. He was born in Jamestown, North Dakota on June 30, 1960. He was raised in Minot by his parents Merwin Lee Udseth and Marjorie Mae Aleshire Udseth. When John was young Marjorie passed away and then raised by Merwin and Karen Udseth. John graduated from Dunseith High School in 1979. In 1986, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Later he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and worked as an intelligence specialist for the Salt Lake City Police Department for many years. Sometime later he moved to Logan, Utah and worked as an exception’s analyst for Conservice LLC for a few years. During his life he attended University of Maryland Global Campus.

John was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wherever he lived.

He enjoyed traveling around the nation, often by Amtrak, seeing the sights and photographing the beautiful places he saw, and sampling ethnic and gourmet foods in his travels. John loved spending time with his many friends and family. He had a great admiration for the officers of various police departments around the country. He seriously recognized the great sacrifice each police officer gives to the community they serve.

He is survived by his siblings: Mark (Amy) Wier – St. George, Utah; Cindy Gillis – Kaysville, Utah; Sandra Allery – Dunseith, North Dakota; James (Jennifer) Udseth – Salt Lake City, Utah, and Sharon Udseth – Livingston, Montana. He was preceded in death by a brother, David in 2003, and his parents, Merwin, Marjorie, and Karen.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rugby on Tuesday, March 7. 2023 at 10:00 A.M.
