Jerry Giesen

Oct. 29, 1949 – Feb. 4, 2023

Minnetrista, Minn.

Jerry Giesen, Minnetrista, Minn., formerly of Parshall, ND, passed away peacefully at his home on February 4, 2023, at age 73, with his family at his side.

Jerry was born October 29, 1949, in Minot to Eugene Sr and Arlene (Jacobson). He was raised on the family farm near Makoti and graduated from Makoti High School in 1968.

He married Karen Deutsch on August 9, 1974. They lived in Minot while he worked for Boeing and later moved to Parshall in 1976 where they built a home and raised their 3 children. Jerry was kind and hardworking. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He enjoyed the bowling league and was a volunteer firefighter in Parshall. He was employed with Northrop Grumman for 24 years and owned and operated Giesen Water Service until his retirement. Jerry moved to Minnesota in 2017. He enjoyed being close to family, fishing on Lake Minnetonka, and spending time at the casino. He always seemed to know which slot machine was about to hit.

Jerry was an extremely proud father and grandfather. He shared his passion for coin and rock collecting and fishing with his grandchildren. He found joy in watching their many sporting events and activities. Rain or shine, he never missed a game, and he was affectionately known as “Grandpa Jerry” in the community. He loved a good, strong cup of coffee and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His smile and infectious laugh will be missed by many.

Left with wonderful memories of Jerry are his children, Kimberly Mjelstad (Aaron) of Minnetrista, Minn., Sasha Lee (Mark) of Blue Diamond, Nev., and Jeremy Giesen of Bismarck; grandchildren, Aidan, Anders, and Ava Mjelstad, Kira and Sofia Lee; sisters, Judy Nelson (Craig Hiller) of Minot, Janice Frink (Virgil) of Parshall; brothers, Johnnie Giesen (Rita) of Center, Eugene Giesen Jr (Cheri) of Bismarck; and extended family brothers-in-law, Dennis (Debra) Deutsch of Plaza, Gary Deutsch of Bismarck, Don Deutsch of Plymouth, Minn; sisters-in-law, Judy Deutsch of New Salem and ReNae (Dale) Quick of New Town; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jerry was greeted in heaven by his wife, Karen; his parents, Eugene and Arlene; his parents-in-law, Ray and Donna Deutsch; and niece, Shawn Brockey.
