David Lindee, Sr.

Feb. 10, 1945 – Mar. 11, 2023

Van Hook

David Paul Lindee, Sr. “Dave” went to be with his Savior after passing away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 11, 2023, in his home at Van Hook.

Dave was born February 10, 1945, in Omaha, Nebraska, to the late Jack and June Lindee. In September 1963, he left home to join the United States Air Force. His first tour sent him to Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, where he was part of the Security Forces. During this time, he met his future best friend and bride, Ellin Blatherwick of Parshall, N.D. They married on May 27, 1967, and embarked on an adventure that would last nearly 56 years.

Early in his Air Force career, Dave transitioned from Security Forces to Laboratory Medicine. He would stay in the lab until his retirement in 1991, after serving 27 years in uniform. Shortly after retiring from the Air Force, he accepted a Civil Service position at the MAFB hospital. He continued his service to his country for another 14 years until entering full retirement in 2007.

Having been stationed in Minot since 1979, Dave was involved in the community in numerous ways. He was a board member and president of the Minot Community Concert Association, which would later become the International Artist Series of Minot. He was a member of the Minot Opera and appeared on many of the stages he helped design and build. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity to help those less fortunate. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, and at the time of his death, was the Church Council President.

He was an avid lover of the outdoors and with his wife, scoured every inch of the state (and beyond) seeking to add to the list of birds they captured on paper and camera each season. Dave’s passion for being outside only dwindled when his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers football team was on TV. If you heard “GO BIG RED!!” on a Saturday afternoon, that was most likely coming from him.

When a person said, “Thank you for your service” to Dave, his response was always “It was my honor”. He led his life based on faith and honor, and his final service to his country was as the Commander of the Arthur Solie Post #121 of the American Legion.

Dave is survived by his wife, Ellin; sons, Dave (Kim) and Bob (Dani); grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Sofia, and Noah; sisters, Patty (Eddie), Mary, and Kris; brother, Rich (Michele); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Mike, and sisters, Dianne and Jackie.

A celebration of Dave’s life will take place on March 17th, 2023 with his
