William Leroy “Bill” Jenson, 88, Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at his residence.

William Leroy “Bill” Jenson was born on January 20, 1935, a son of Oscar S. and May (McFarlen) Jenson on the family homestead near Granville, ND. He was raised and educated in Minot, where he attended Minot Model grade and high school.

On August 12, 1952, Bill enlisted into the United States Navy. He proudly served his country abroad the USS Aircraft carrier Ticonderoga. He was honorably discharged on January 30, 1956.

Following his discharge, Bill returned to Minot, where he began working for the Great Northern Railroad, which later became the Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

On April 29, 1977, Bill was united in marriage to Barbara Larson. They made their home in Minot, later transferring to Mandan, where Bill worked until his retirement following 42 years of dedicated service. Upon his retirements, they returned to Minot.

Bill was an active member of the Nodak Race Club, where he worked as a mechanic for several years. Also served on the Nodak Board of Directors and was a flagman. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and traveling in their motorhome throughout the United States. He was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church and a current member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara; children, Kelly (Carolyn) Jenson and Cheryl (Jerome Fox) Mulligan; four grandchildren, Troy Jenson, Kody (Leslie) Mulligan, Katie (Garrett) Whittrock, and Kasey (Mackenzie) Mulligan; 6 great-grandchildren; sister Vera Wright; and sister-in-law: Shirley Jenson, Luella Conine and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Wesley, Melvin, Lorraine Olson and Janice Werman, brothers and sisters-in-law Erwin Wright, Olive Hill, Donald Larson, Phyllis Bertsch, George Larson, David Larson, and Russell Larson.

Visitation: Tuesday, February 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 9:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed at Bill’s webpage at www.thompsonlarson.com

Burial: Wednesday at 3:00 pm at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
