June C. Nelson, 99 years of age, passed away at Ecumen Pathstone in Mankato, MN, on February 2, 2023. Services will be at Christ the King, Lutheran Church, Mankato on February 18, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. June always wanted to promote science and donated her body to Mayo Clinic.
June was born June 9,1923, on a homestead farm, to Julia & amp; Ingvald Rindahl near Parshall, N.D. She graduated from Mountrail Consolidated School (rural Plaza, ND), Parshall High School in 1940, and Minot State University in elementary education.
On June 9th, 1947, she married Ernest R. Nelson in Lucky Mound Lutheran Church, rural Parshall. Ernest and June lived on their farm near Ryder, ND and were parents to three children; Elliot, Bonita & amp; Julie. June was involved in church activities, Homemakers, Home Ec, and Farmers Union. She taught elementary grades in Plaza, South Prairie and White Shield. After retirement, she was a substitute teacher and later, was a tutor for adults in the English Language Learner program in Mankato.
When Ernie retired from farming, June retired from teaching. They spent many winters in south Texas. In 1980, June returned to Minot State University and completed her teaching degree. In 2002, they moved to Old Main Village, Mankato, Minn., where they enjoyed new friends and activities.
Her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the greatest joy. June always liked to entertain and spend time with family and friends. Her laugh and smile were contagious. June was gracious and always appreciated the care she received.
Preceding June to heaven were her husband, Ernest, her son and daughter-in-law, Elliott and Nancy Nelson, and grandson, Aaron Sagness.
Remaining family include daughters Bonita Ensrude (Michael) of Austin, TX, and Julie Hatleli (Jim) of Mankato, MN; grandchildren & great-grandchildren: Jeff (Terri) Nelson, Emma & Ally of Ames, IA; Carryn (Michael) Anderson, Austin & Braden of North Liberty, IA; Kristen (Sean) Murray, Lillian & Evelyn of Manchaca, TX; Janelle (Tim) Stevens, Hope & Reid of Manchester, CT; Jeff (Stephanie) Hatleli of San Diego, CA: adopted son and daughter, Rick & Andrea Hill of Knoxville, TN; Peyton Hill of Ankeny, IA and Kristen (Brandon) Hill-Thimesh of Manhatten, KS; sister-in-law, Wilma Higgs of Indianapolis, IN: “adopted daughter” Nancy (Jim) Armbruster, Mankato, MN.
A graveside service will be held on a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ryder, Lutheran World Relief, Mayo Mankato Hospice, or donor’s choice.
