David Norton, 67, Minot, died Saturday, January 28, 2023 in a Minot hospital.

David Joseph Norton was born June 4, 1955, in Brooklyn, NY to Milton and Joan (Deering) Norton. He moved often during his youth as his family followed his father’s military career. He graduated from Satellite Beach, Florida high school in 1973 and moved with his family to Minot later that year. David attended Minot State University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1978.

David was united in marriage to Shelley Johnson on December 26, 1980 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Minot, where they would remain the rest of their married lives. They were blessed with two children, Erika and Robert.

David spent his working years in a variety of positions but found his niche as a teacher. He spent his twenty-year career as a high school Biology teacher at Bishop Ryan High School, Max High School, and last at Minot High School, Central Campus.

David was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Minot’s Heritage Singers for over forty years. He was active in his community serving on the Roundup Board and Advisory Committee for Verendrye Electric Co-op. He was also a board member with Shelley for International Artist Series, as a driver for the Meals-On-Wheels Program, and recently was elected to serve as treasurer of the ND Retired Teachers Association.

David’s family includes his loving wife of 42 years Shelley, Minot; daughter Erika (John) Rodenbiker, Fargo; son Robert Norton, Minot; grandchildren Elizabeth and Jack Rodenbiker and Sylas and Miri Norton; sisters Linda (Ed) Coleman of Parker, CO and Robyn (Milt) Teague of Natalia, TX; brother Joe (Susie) Norton, Woodland Park, CO along with numerous nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law Stefanie Lewis.

Visitation: Friday, February 3, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church.
