Carrie Nelson, 99, Minot ND, formerly of Kenmare ND, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Carrie Elsie Assels was born January 12, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Nelson) Assels, in Norma ND. She was raised and educated in Norma.
Carrie married Richard Nelson on October 3, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kenmare. They made their home on the farm north of Kenmare where they raised their two children David and Dianna. She was a farmer’s wife helping with harvest and daily chores. She loved planting a big garden and canning every year. She enjoyed reading books, doing puzzles, playing cards and board games.
They were married for 58 years and after Richard passed away in October 2001, she moved to Minot to be closer to her family. She made many new friends at her condo and her church.
She loved spending time with family and going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and continued on going to sporting events for her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed camping on weekends with friends and family, and especially loved sitting around the campfires.
Her faith was a very important part of her life. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and attended many bible studies. She was such a kind and caring lady that was willing to help anyone!
Her loving family included: children, Dave (Fran) Nelson, Dianna (Greg) Ackerman; grandchildren, Jason (Danell) Ackerman, Jeremy (Heather) Ackerman, Jodi (Brian) Tvedt; great-grandchildren, Paige and Jillian Ackerman, Abigail Ackerman, Easton and Shelby Tvedt, Koby Hahn, Kelsey (Bryant) Schlag, Lily and Sadie; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; brothers: James (Carol) Assels, Roy (Lucinda) Assels; sisters: Hazel (Ray) Soum, Gladys (Mack) McKee, Grace (David) Wherely, Elsie (Tom) Odland; brother-in-laws: Melvin (Myrtle) Nelson, Floyd (Irene) Nelson, Lyle Nelson; sister-in-laws: Erma (Roger) Nelson, Maffie (Wilbert) Schwietzer, Agnes (Jerry) Mellon.
Funeral: Monday, February 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.
