Lloyd Bethke, 79, Minot, ND, formerly of Upham, ND, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023, at a Minot care facility.
Lloyd H. Bethke was born April 29, 1943, the son of Harvey and Izetta (Marsh) Bethke, in Minot, ND. Lloyd was raised in rural Newburg, ND. He started his education at Little Deep Country School before transferring to Upham High School. Lloyd graduated from Upham High School in 1961. Lloyd furthered his education by attending Minot Teacher’s College, and graduating in 1966.
Lloyd began his teaching career in 1966 for the Minot Public School system as an elementary physical education instructor. He taught at many schools throughout his years and even at the Minot Air Force Base. Lloyd retired in 2000 after 34 years.
Lloyd married Susan Mickelson in 1966 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Upham. They made their home in Minot.
Although Lloyd was an educator by trade, he was a farmer at heart. He always wanted to know what was happening or going on at the farm. For a few years he and Sue went into custom combining. Lloyd loved sports especially University of North Carolina basketball and the New York Yankee’s.
Lloyd was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Minot where he had held many different positions.
His loving family includes: Wife of 56 years, Susan Bethke,
Children, Brian (Kelly) Bethke, Upham, Scott Bethke, Upham
Grandchildren, Matthew (Julian) Vana, Bismarck, Zachariah Prescott, Kewaskum, WI, Brian Bethke Jr., Upham; Brother, Wayne (Mickey) Bethke, Minot; nieces, Tracey Zeretzke and Penny Brandt; nephew, Mitchell Bethke; and many cousins also survive.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral: Monday, January 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: are preferred to the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church building and music fund.
