Linda Anderson

Linda Anderson, 76, Minot, ND, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Linda Lorraine Borstad was born in Minot, ND on March 18, 1946, a daughter of Milo and Hilda (Smith) Borstad. Linda grew up on farms in Harrison and Burt townships in Ward County, attending Harrison country school for grades 1 through 8 and then Minot High School for grades 9 through 12, graduating in 1964. She furthered her education by attending Minot State College for one year, along with working for Westland Oil and the Ward County NDSU extension office. In 1967, she was named the “Young Professional Business Woman of the Year” for North Dakota. She was a shrewd business woman that inherited her business sense from her parents.

On September 2, 1967 Linda was united in marriage to Howard “Bucky” Anderson at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church in Minot. They moved to Fargo in 1968 where Linda worked for Border States Electric and financially supported the family. Their first daughter, Stacie was born in Fargo in the summer of 1969. Bucky finished college at NDSU in May 1969 after which they moved to Napoleon, ND where Bucky started his teaching career. They had 6 years of successful teaching and coaching in Napoleon, Linda teaching pre-school and was her husband’s only assistant coach. She also taught catechism classes at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Their time spent in Napoleon was a special gift for the family. Their second daughter Ellie was born in 1975. The family moved to Bismarck where Linda and Bucky were actively involved in Bismarck High School from 1975 to 1977 and Century High School from 1978 to 1983. Education is a family vocation; Linda was supportive of the Wrestling programs at both high schools and was the cheerleading advisor at Century High School. Their son Clay was born in 1979.

The family moved to Minot in 1983 to live and farm on the farmstead where Linda grew up. With the move to Minot in 1983, their children began school in Des Lacs-Burlington. During this time, Linda was the advisor of the DLB high school cheerleading program, and it was under her leadership that the tradition of locker decorating at playoffs and tournament time was started. Linda supported every sports program her children participated in; she never missed a game they played! She was a true Laker fan.

Through her time spent supporting her husband’s career as a wrestling coach, Linda recognized the positive life lessons team sports instill in young people. Her commitment to growing the Wrestling community for over 30 years has positively impacted the lives of many young athletes. She supported the USA Wresting organization for 25 years, organizing the first Northern Plains Regional for Kids and Cadets. She was awarded the Lefty Faris Memorial award for Outstanding Service to Wrestling Coaches in 1989. She was the first female to be inducted into the North Dakota Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2002. In 1995, after supporting kids’ wrestling programs for 10 years in the DLB community, Linda and Bucky started the high school wrestling program in Des Lacs-Burlington. In 2010, Linda and Bucky were an important part of restarting the Minot State University Wrestling Program.

Linda believed in service to others and a commitment to making a positive impact in the organizations she believed in. She started as the secretary for Ward County Farm Bureau in 1986

and continued until her retirement due to health reasons in 2022. She served on the Ward County Library board for 12 years. In 2001 the couple built a permanent home on Rice Lake and Linda served on the Rice Lake board for 14 years.

Linda had a knack for creating and working with her hands, she co-owned and operated the Crafter’s Gallery in Minot from 1985 to the early 1990’s. She was a skilled decorator and had great style.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Howard “Bucky” Anderson; her children, Stacie (Wesley) Beck, Ellie (Mark) Nickel, Clay (Erin Spaeth) Anderson; her beloved grandchildren, Ava Nickel, Wyatt & Tristan Beck, Milo, Nora, Vivy, Hope & Lani Anderson; her sister, Phyllis (Jerry) Becker; her brother-in-law, Mike (Sandy Schweyen) Anderson; her aunt, Donna Mae (Borstad) Luther; her niece, Lisa (Doug Mikkelson) Anderson, and nephews, Brett (Mary Jo) Anderson, Seth (Becky) Anderson; great niece, Sofia Anderson and great nephews Gage and Cash Anderson, together with numerous cousins.
