Jim Morken

James “Jim” Morken, 90, Minot, ND, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
James Conrad Morken was born on May 27, 1932, in Jamestown, ND, to Emil and Erna (Kemmer) Morken. He was raised and educated in the Maddock area, graduating from BCATS in 1950. After graduation, Jim worked at Red Owl until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Jim began his career with the Great Northern Railroad shortly thereafter and retired in 1994.
On July 20, 1957, Jim was united in marriage to Delores Trimmer in New Rockford, ND. They
made their home in New Rockford until moving to Minot in 1960 for his job where they raised their two daughters, Nancy and Brenda. Delores passed away in 2015.
He loved to collect unique beer cans and railroad items. He enjoyed card games, especially pinochle, watching the Minnesota Twins, doing word search, jumble and reading the newspaper. Jim was a Ford man who liked to have the cleanest car. He would wash it every day, weather permitting and always carried cleaning supplies and shammies in his car. Jim liked helping others and spending time with his family.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot VFW and the Cooties, Fargo AMVETS and the American Legion.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Nancy Morken and her special friend, David Newman, Brenda (Dion) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife Delores; siblings, Ervin, Clinton, Donnie, Jerry, Christine, Carolyn, Sylvia and Bernice.
Funeral: Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot, ND.
Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a Veterans Organization, Bethany Lutheran Church or Meals on Wheels.
