Theresa Bolkan
Theresa Bolkan, 90, Minot, formerly of Parshall, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, at a Minot nursing home. Theresa was born July 4, 1932, in Balfour, ND to John Jr. and Catherina (Volk) Gange. She graduated from Berwick High School in 1950. On February 3, 1956, Theresa was united in marriage to Harland Bolkan in Minot. The couple made their home in Parshall, where Harland was a farmer in the Raub and Parshall area.
In 1962, Theresa received a Standard Teaching Certificate from Minot State Teachers College and in 1972 she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Minot State College. Theresa taught at elementary schools in Garrison and Parshall and at the Head Start program in Parshall. In her spare time, she was an avid bowler and crocheter and liked to play cards at the Senior Center. Harland suffered a stroke in 2018 after which he lived in a nursing home until his death in 2020. Theresa moved to Minot in 2019, residing for a time at The Wellington, and more recently at Trinity Homes.
Theresa is survived by her daughter, Waverly (Allen) Hagen of Auburn, WA; sons, Rory Bolkan of Mandan and Terry Bolkan of Parshall; grandsons, Starling Bolkan of Phoenix, AZ and Ryan Hagen of Seattle, WA; step-granddaughters, Sable Coffey of New Town and Selah (Dana) Graff of Tama, Iowa; brothers, Peter (Norma) Gange of Tishomingo, MS and Lawrence Gange of Mandan. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harland; infant brother, Michael; brothers, John and Dennis; and sister, Marie.
