Joyce Eggert

Sept. 20, 1935 – Dec. 24, 2022

Joyce Eggert, 87, Minot, ND, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 in a Minot hospital.

Joyce was born on September 20, 1935 in Minot, ND, a daughter of Josephine (Harmon) and Leo Hennessy. Along with her six siblings, she attended Minot High School and graduated in 1953. She married Gordon Eggert on July 27, 1961 in Chamberlain, SD.

Gordie and Joyce moved back to Minot to the same house she was born in and remained there her entire life.

Joyce had several jobs in Minot, but is most remembered for serving lunch to thousands of students at Washington Elementary School. She also worked at numerous events at the concession stand at the Minot Auditorium, where her kids got to see multiple national touring acts. (Thanks Mom!) Joyce was an avid sports fan, especially for Bishop Ryan Catholic School and Minot High School, where she could be spotted with her sister, Marion Evenson, cheering for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and “all the kids”. When not in the bleachers at a gym, field or court, Joyce would be taking care of her lawn and garden. She had a vast garden and canned many fruits and vegetables to have all year long.

Joyce was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and was a devout Catholic. She belonged to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church but often attended the 4:00 p.m. Mass on Saturdays at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Joyce passed away on the afternoon of December 24th, Christmas Eve, as the bells at St. Leo’s were ringing, calling her home.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Eggert; her parents, Josephine and Leo Hennessy; her siblings, Marion (Virgil) Evenson, Leo (Darlene) Hennessy, Duane (Mary) Hennessy, Harley (Susan) Hennessy and Tom Hennessy; brother-in-law, Warren Olson.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Lois Olson, Chandler, AZ; her children, Steve (Perri) Eggert, Chaska, MN, Jerry (Wendy) Eggert, Minot, Jodi (John) Ronnie, Buffalo, MN, Chuck Eggert, Denver, CO, and Bill Eggert, San Francisco, CA; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, with two more on the way in 2023; and a sister-in-law, Susan Hennessy.
