Richard Erickson

June 24, 1947 – Oct. 25, 2022

Richard Eugene Erickson, 75, Colfax, IA, formerly of Minot, ND, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in his home.

Rick was born June 24, 1947, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Grondahl) Erickson, in Deering, ND. He worked on the family farm with his dad and three brothers and he worked at the Minot Airport in the winter months. He graduated from Deering High School and began his career working at Behms where he met Linda Behm.

He married Linda (Behm) on July 25, 1970 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot, ND. They made their home in Minot and raised their two daughters, Brenda and Laura. While their daughters attended UND the couple moved to Fargo, ND and then again to an acreage near Pelican Rapids, MN where Rick worked for the county and foam dock manufacturer. In 2000, they relocated to Colfax, IA to be close to their grandkids.

The last 9 years Rick and Linda spent the cold winter months in Mesa, AZ. They enjoyed spending time with their neighbors who have become close friends. They enjoyed traveling the Phoenix area and connecting with extended family who are also AZ snowbirds. They also enjoyed seeing family that wintered in AZ.

Rick’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his four grandchildren and attending their school and sports activities.

Rick loved horses and was a member of the Ward County Sheriff’s Posse. The family spent many summers camping at Lake Sakakawea boating and playing golf. Rick also collected Allis Chalmers toy tractors (the tractors used on the family farm).

His loving family includes: his loving wife of 52 years, Linda; children, Brenda (Thomas) Klein, West Des Moines, IA, Laura (Michael) Smith, Colfax, IA; grandchildren, Wyatt and Dylan Smith and Erick and Mackenzie Klein; brother, Steve Erickson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brothers, Larry and Ronald.

Funeral: Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to American Heart Association and St. Jude Hospital.
