Marie Leier, 94, Minot, ND, formerly of Velva, ND, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Elison Assisted Living in Minot.
Marie Emily Duchsherer was born November 17, 1928, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Feller) Duchsherer, in Minot. She was raised in the Verendrye, ND, area and educated in Karlsruhe, ND, where she graduated from Karlsruhe High School.
Marie was once married to William J. Leier on June 20, 1949, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva. They made their home south of Velva on the farm. In 1998, she moved to Minot. In 1990, she began working for Deva Lifewear, where she was a seamstress.
She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva, the Minot Women of the Moose Lodge, and the Dakota Cruiser Car Club. She showed her 70 Chevelle Malibu in car shows and won a few trophies.
Marie enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking, cooking, canning and loved her Dairy Queen Blizzard’s.
Her loving family includes: children, Bruce (Sherrie) Leier, Minot, ND, and Carleen Ann Leier, Bismarck, ND; 5 grandchildren, Chad (Melissa) Leier, Nathan (Becky) Leier, Dustin (Alysa) Leier, Nicole (Michael) Kaylor and Travis Leier; 7 great-grandchildren, Brandon and Nicholas Leier; Avery and Tilton Leier; Piper Leier; and Dylan and Devin Kaylor; sisters-in-law, Sandy Duchsherer and Dorothy Duchsherer; aunt, Ann Armstrong; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, William; sons, Billy J. Leier and Leslie A. Leier; brothers, Anton Duchsherer, Frank Duchsherer, Jr., Adam Duchsherer, Bennie Duchsherer, William Duchsherer, Peter Duchsherer and Pius Duchsherer; sister, Gertrude Marshall.
Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva.
Interment: Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Velva, ND.
Visitation: Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: are preferred to the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery or St. Cecilia Catholic Church, both of Velva.
