Mabel Evelyn Dobrovolny

May 12, 1921 – Nov. 20, 2022

Mabel Dobrovolny, 101, Minot, ND, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Minot.

Mabel was born at home on May 12, 1921, to Norwegian Immigrants Mathias and Oline Lilligaard. She was the youngest and last surviving child of seven children. She grew up and was educated in rural Bottineau County. She attended secretarial school in Park River and Bottineau School of Forestry. She worked at various companies as a bookkeeper until she had children. She then worked out of her home as a seamstress. After her children got into high school she went back to work at Cummins Diesel as office manager until she retired in 1992.

Mabel and Fred Dobrovolny were married on November 22, 1947. They lived on a farm in rural Mountrail County, where their two children were born. They moved to Minot in 1954 and Fred began work as a patrolman for the Minot Police Department eventually becoming Chief of Police.

Mabel is survived by her two children, Collin Dobrovolny (Wanda) Waconia, MN and Carolyn Tedrow (Harold Thomas her friend) Carrington, ND. She is also survived by 4 granddaughters Jenna Dobrovolny Clark (Stuart) and their two children Bowman and Edie of Eden Prairie, MN. Shannon Dobrovolny (Karen Canino her partner) of Philadelphia, PA. Trisa Kingstone (Brett) and their daughter Lilli of New Rockford, ND and Boulder, CO. Ashley Linneman (Joseph) and their children Ryatt and Logan of New Rockford, ND and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her parents; and 6 brothers and sisters.

There will be a memorial service at Thompson Larson Funeral Home in Minot on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 1:00 pm.

Inurnment: will take place at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer well-wishers to make a donation to their chosen charity or the North Dakota School for the Blind.
