Leon Turner

Leon Wayne Turner, 56, of Minot, North Dakota, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Trinity Hospital in Minot. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on 14 November 2022 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, 700 16th Ave. SE, Minot, ND. There will be no graveside service in lieu of cremation. Interment will be scheduled in the spring during planting season, for his ashes to be spread on the farm that he grew up on in Velva, North Dakota. The farm was his happy place and will be his final resting place.

Leon was born on 23 August 1966 to Roy and Jean (Kingsley) Turner in Minot, North Dakota. He was raised on the farm South of Velva, North Dakota, along with an older sister and two older brothers. Growing up on the farm, Leon learned the operation of tractors and combines, working on cars, snowmobiling during the winter and hunting. He attended school in Velva and graduated from Velva High School in 1985. For a short period of time, he attended the community college in Mandan, North Dakota. In Mandan, he met Jodi Watson, and they were married in July 1988. They moved back to Minot, where they raised three children, Jarrod, Lindsey and Joni. The couple later divorced and Leon remained in Minot, where he spent the rest of his life.

He had a passion for cars and the favorite was Mopar’s. Leon was a member of the Dakota Cruisers Car Club and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the car shows and exhibiting his car. His entertainment was working on cars or pickups and talking about cars. Leon’s ray of sunshine was his children and grandchildren, whom he loved deeply.

Leon is survived by his children, Jarrod (Ashley) Turner, Lindsey (Jesse) Schlatter and Joni (Nathan) Olson. Grandchildren (6) Emily and Lincoln Turner, Jaxton and Hallie Schlatter, Noah and Katie Olson. Sister, Lola (Doug) Hanna, brothers, Larry (Joette) Turner and Lee (Lynn) Turner. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Turner and Jean Rollman; half-brother, Rick Cline; grandparents, Ekas Kingsley and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Oliver Turner.
