Laura Skalicky

Laura C. Skalicky—-97, Minot, formerly of Powers Lake, ND, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022 in an assisted care facility.

Laura Charlotte Olson was born, on May 9, 1925, the seventh child born to Charley and Lizzie (Larson) Olson on the family homestead near Battleview, ND. She was raised on the family farm and educated in Powers Lake, ND.

On March 25, 1942, Laura was united in marriage to Philip Skalicky in Seattle, WA. They made their home north of Powers Lake, ND, where they raised their four children. In addition to family, Laura and Philip enjoyed the lifestyle of cattle ranching, retiring in 1985. Following retirement, they moved to Minot, where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends Philip passed away on November 16, 2006. Following his death, she continued to live in Minot, where she resided at The View on Elk Drive, where she enjoyed the past 15 years.

Laura was a former member of St. James Catholic Church in Powers Lake, ND, where she was active within the ladies’ circle. When she moved to Minot, she became an active member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, where she enjoyed volunteering at several parish events. Laura was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend and will be missed by all that knew her.

Laura is survived by:

Children: Carol (Walt) Kennedy, FL, Pat (Ross) Salveson, TN, Mark (Patti) ND, Marsha (Russ) Rogne, ND;

Eight grandchildren: Chad (Katie) Skalicky, Coni (David) Albertson, Troy (Megan) Skalicky, Craig (Jocie) Salveson, Melissa (Patrick) Opland, Michelle (Chris) Richter, Rachel (Brandon) Karhoff, Rebecca (Caleb) Berge; 21 great-grandchildren: one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 64 years Philip and all of her siblings.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, however, friends may sign a guest register on Monday, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, November 21, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at ST. James Catholic Church, Powers Lake, ND.

Burial: St. James Catholic Cemetery, Powers Lake, ND.
