Evelyn Law

Evelyn Law, age 97, of Rolla, ND passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Edgewood Vista, Fargo, ND.

Evelyn Norene Vollmer was born on September 27, 1925 to Arthur and Lelia (Tuttle) Vollmer at Bottineau, ND. She was the oldest of four children and grew up on the family farm in Willow Vale Township, Bottineau County. She graduated from Willow City High School in 1943.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Raymond Junior Law on November 23, 1944 at Bottineau. She and Jr lived in Rolette where they raised their eight children. There were many busy years with most activities centering on work, home, school, church and friends. She maintained a home where all were welcomed. There was always room around the table for one or two more, and often there were extras spending the night. Baking day often found a line of neighborhood kids coming through the house, in the back door and out the front, grabbing a cookie or donut or two on the way through.

When the children were younger, Evelyn worked as a nurse aide, both at San Haven State Hospital and Rolette Hospital. In 1963, she built the Rolette Tastee Freez and ran it until the late 70’s. She was a substitute rural mail carrier for many years, and when there was an opening, she became a full-time rural letter carrier driving 100 miles a day on rural gravel roads. When Park View Assisted Living opened their doors in Rolla in 2001, Evelyn was one of the first five occupants. She loved her time at Park View and often said, “I can’t imagine being anywhere else.”

Evelyn enjoyed needlepoint and quilting, making many quilts for family members. She loved birdwatching and being outdoors. Evelyn also enjoyed golfing at the Rolette golf course. Gardening was one of her favorite hobbies and she had many beautiful flower gardens over the years. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She often hosted Fourth of July picnics for extended family, which is a treasured memory for all. Evelyn was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 76 years and The Order of the Easter Star for 50+ years.

Evelyn is survived by her eight children, Donovan (Isla) Law of Fargo, Mike Law of Sabin, MN, Kathy (Rick) LaCroix of Overland Park, KS, Pat (Larry) Cooper of Georgetown, TX, Kevin (Karen) Law of Bismarck, Nancy (Les) Peak of Jackson, WY, Sam (Laurie) Law of Gulf Shores, AL and Terri (Mark) Monette of Alexandria, MN; 21 grandchildren; and 42 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Victor Vollmer and wife Doris, sister-in-law, Helen Vollmer, all of Willow City; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Raymond Jr (1997), and her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Diane Kastet Law, her brother, Raymond (Buzzy) Vollmer, her sister, Doris Semler and husband Gerald, her sister-in-law, Kathleen Page and husband Bob, and her brother-in-law, Bonar Law and wife Carol.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Park View Assisted Living in Rolla or Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette.

A visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, ND with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, ND. Burial will follow in the Rolette City Cemetery, Rolette, ND. Pastor Nicholas Rohde officiating.
