Catherine Selfors

Feb. 14, 1936 – Nov. 26, 2022

Catherine Selfors, 86, Minot, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022, in her home.

Catherine B. Jundt was born February 14, 1936, the daughter of William and Christina (Wolf) Jundt, in Rugby, ND. She was raised and educated in Rugby attending Little Flower School through her second grade. In 1944, she moved to Minot and attended St. Leos School where she graduated in 1954.

Catherine married the love of her life, Duane Selfors, on June 27, 1956, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot, ND. They were members of Little Flower and St. Leo’s Parishes in Minot throughout their married lives. They had four children, Donalda, Cheryl, Kevin, and Lisa, who were all born in Minot. Duane passed away January 25, 2017.

Catherine’s faith was very important to her and she prayed the rosary daily. She belonged to the St. Judes guild at St. Leos until her health issues prevented her from participating. Catherine and Duane enjoyed gardening together for many years, they were proud of their hard work that produced many flowers, vegetables, and fruits. Catherine even made wine for several years from the grapes that they produced. She also canned every year; jam was one of her and Duane’s favorites that they shared with everyone. Catherine’s skills at cooking were something that her family looked forward to at holidays and throughout the year. Everyone especially loved her German dishes. Her children, grandchildren, and nieces were blessed to be taught her cooking and baking skills.

She was an excellent seamstress, sewing matching dresses for her and her girls for special holidays. Catherine and her sister, Irene along with their mother made many quilts, doing much of the work by hand. She also enjoyed reading and collecting music boxes.

Catherine loved her big extended family and would care for several nieces and nephews and their children over the years. She also cared for some of the kids of her children’s friends; she cared for her grandchildren as well. She was blessed with four grandchildren and six great grandchildren that she enjoyed getting visits from throughout the year. She was beloved by so many nieces and nephews and was called mom by many of her children’s friends.

She had a very strong work ethic that was demonstrated by her 19 years of employment at N.W. Bell telephone. While there from 1954 to 1977, Catherine was promoted to central office clerk and then operator services supervisor until the office closed and relocated to Bismarck, ND. She supported her union and fair practices while at employed at MA Bell.

Her loving family includes: her children: Donalda, Berkeley, CA; Cheryl (Roger) Jehlicka, Minot, Kevin (Belinda) Selfors, Hayfield, MN, and Lisa (Eric) Dailey, Little Beaver Bay, ND;

grandchildren: Alexandra Nash, Bronx, NY, Brenden (Manhattan) Jehlicka, Casper, WY, Jenna Landry (Brent Williams), Cheyenne, WY, and Benedict (DeAnna) Selfors, Fargo, ND; step-grandchildren: Cody (Hannah) Dailey and Kihley (Myrrha) Dailey, both of Minot; great-grandchildren, Lillian Peters, Casselton, ND, Aubrey Landry and Violet Landry, Cheyenne, WY, Vincent Jehlicka and Cecilia Jehlicka, Casper, WY, Poppy Jehlicka, Cheyenne, WY; step-great-grandchildren, Khaliya Dailey, Minot, ND; extended family members: Bean Blackett, Miami, FL and Christy Harmon, Bismarck, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Anton, Adam, Joe, Phillip, and Tom Jundt; sisters, Mary Ann Gravendyk and Irene Daeley; and extended family member, David Blackett.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to the Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry.
