Ryan Wheeling

Aug. 21, 1998 – Oct. 16, 2022

Ryan Joseph Wheeling

was born August 21, 1998,

in Bismarck, to Joseph

and Molly (Iverson)

Wheeling. He was raised

in New Town and grew

up loving the outdoors.

He graduated as valedic-

torian from New Town

High School in 2017.

Ryan competed in

long-distance running and

excelled at cross country

(XC) and Track. Ryan had

a total of 18 State Cham-

pionship Titles in run-

ning. He had one State XC

Individual Championship

Title (2015) and five State

XC Championship Team

Titles (2012-2016). In

Track, Ryan earned nine

State Track Individual

Championship Titles

(2014, 2016, 2017) and

three State Track Cham-

pionship Team Titles

(2015, 2016, 2017). Ryan

received the ND Senior

Athlete Award for XC as

well as Track.

He attended Oklahoma

State University in Still-

water, OK on a scholar-

ship and continued com-

peting in cross country

and track. He transferred

to North Dakota State

University in 2019 where

he was one semester away

from his degree in busi-

ness. In 2020, he began

splitting his time between

fully returned home in

2022.

Ryan had an en-

trepreneurial spirit. He

began selling Toro lawn-

mowers which expanded

into selling ice houses

and ground blinds. He

was in the process of tak-

ing over the NAPA Auto

Parts store so his dad

could retire. Ryan loved

the outdoors and every-

thing to do with it from

running to hunting and

fishing. He and his lab

puppy, Traynor (named

after his Grandma Mary

Ellen), were looking for-

ward to moving into his

new tiny home and living

a minimalist lifestyle.

Running was a big part

of his life. Through his

participation in cross

country and track, Ryan

was able to meet and get

to know competitors from

all over the state and from

all over the nation and

world while he ran for

OSU. He had many

achievements and awards

throughout the years. He

shared his love of the

sport with others and

Ryan was the current

coach for the Parshall

Braves cross country

teams.

Ryan blessed our lives,

and he will be truly

missed. Ryan Wheeling, at
