Lois Estvold

June 11, 1929 – Oct. 24, 2022

Lois Estvold, 93, Minot, formerly of New Town, peacefully passed away, Monday, October 24, 2022, with her family at her side, at a Minot nursing home.

Lois Jean was born June 11, 1929, to Raymond and Gladys (Ranum) Pfundheller, on the family farm, near Sanish, ND. She was raised on the farm and graduated as Valedictorian in 1947, from Sanish High School. Lois continued her education for a year at Minot Teachers College, in Minot.

On December 29, 1948, Lois was united in marriage to Adrian Estvold, at her parents’ home, near Sanish. They made their home on Adrian’s parents’ farm for two years before moving to Stanley where they lived for two years. In the fall of 1953, they moved to their farm near Sanish. Adrian and Lois enjoyed socializing and attended many dances and square dances throughout their lives. In 2002, Adrian and Lois moved to Minot. Adrian passed away in October 2007.

Lois was gracious and loving and always made time for family and friends. She excelled as a farmwife and worked side by side with Adrian, planting the crops. She cooked, cleaned, mowed the lawn, and was the family barber. She hauled water in the 1949 Chevy pickup until the well was dug. She also tended a vegetable garden while her children were growing as well as a beautiful flower garden. She participated in Big Bend Homemakers Club and was a 4-H leader.

Lois had a strong faith and was a member of Grand Valley Lutheran and later Bethel Lutheran. She was the organist, participated in the ladies’ circles, and was always willing to help where she was needed.

Lois was family-focused. She made weekly visits to her parents, aunt Nora, and sister Phyllis. On Sundays, she prepared a family meal with her special fried chicken as a staple. She loved playing cards, especially with family on holidays. She also gifted family and friends with her knitted and crocheted items. May God bless the memory of Lois Estvold.
