James A. Reynolds, 80,
of Deering, ND passed
away on Sunday, August
28, 2022 at the Trinity
Health Center in Minot,
North Dakota.
James Alvin Reynolds
was born on July 20, 1942
to James and Vera Rey-
nolds in Metropolis, Illi-
nois. He was the oldest of
five siblings. James at-
tended school in Brook-
port, Illinois until the 9th
grade, and enlisted into
the United States Air
Force at the age of 17.
Through the US Air Force
James was able to earn his
High School GED. He
made a career in the mili-
tary in the 91st FMMS
Missile Maintenance
Squad and fought in Viet-
nam. James was stationed
around the world
throughout his life includ-
ing Japan, Greenland,
Turkey, Korea, and the
United States.
James was first sta-
tioned at the Duluth Air
Force Base in Minnesota.
While in Minnesota he
was married for a short
time, and had his first
son, Peter Wesley Rey-
nolds. On October 8, 1967
James married Karen
Lewis and together the
couple went overseas to
Japan. While stationed in
Japan, James and Karen
had two children, Wesley
and Shannon. The family
would continue to travel
the world with the US Air
Force, and when they
came back stateside to
Homestead Air Force Base
in Florida they had their
son, Dwayne. James was
eventually sent to Minot
Air Force Base in North
Dakota, where he would
stay until he retired from
the military.
Upon retirement James
was still active in the mil-
itary as a civilian, and
worked for the Minot Air
Force Base for 20 years.
He was an active Rough
Rider there and continued
to help in the missile
department. When he fi-
nally did fully retire, he
enjoyed many hobbies in-
cluding spending time
with his grandchildren
and great-grandchildren,
gardening and canning,
and riding motorcycle.
James and Karen loved to
travel around in their RV
and would enjoy camping
and fishing while on their
excursions. James loved
farming and helping peo-
ple get their fields ready
for planting. He enjoyed
driving the tractors and
other large machinery on
the farms.
James is survived by his
wife, Karen; son, Peter
(Brenda) Reynolds, Wes-
ley (Kim) Reynolds, and
Dwayne (Traci) Reynolds;
daughter, Shannon (Ar-
chie) Herndon; brother,
Jackie Reynolds; sisters,
Anna Finke and Linda
(James) Little; 10
grandchildren and 6
great-grandchildren.
Proceeding James in
death were his parents,
James and Vera Reynolds;
paternal and maternal
grandparents; and his
brother, Danny Reynolds.
The family will be cele-
brating James’s life at a
Memorial Service which
will be held on Tuesday,
September 6, 2022 from
5:00-7:00 pm at the Deer-
ing Community Center on
Main Street in Deering,
North Dakota. All are wel-
come to attend. Inurn-
ment will be at the North
Dakota Veteran’s
Cemetery in Mandan,
North Dakota at a later
date.
