Richard Novak, 86, rur-
al Minot, ND, passed
away Tuesday, August 9,
2022 in a Minot nursing
care facility.
Richard was born on
September 30, 1935 in
Minot, ND, a son of Frank
and Bernice (Kivley) No-
vak. He was raised on the
Novak farm in Burt Town-
ship, and graduated from
Minot High School in
1953. The Class of ’53 was
very close and would get
together for lunch once a
month.
Richard enlisted into
the Army in 1958 until he
was honorably discharged
in 1960. He later joined
the Army Reserve.
On February 23, 1974,
Richard married the form-
er Bernice Dostert. They
made their home on the
Novak farm southwest of
Minot. Bernice passed
away on October 17, 2008.
Richard enjoyed going
to the Makoti, Drake and
Lansford threshing shows,
going to local auctions
with Steve and Raymond,
collecting old tractors and
Dodge trucks.
He served on the Burt
Township Board, Rural
Water Board, Farmers Un-
ion Elevator Board which
later became Sun Prairie
Grain. He was a member
of First Lutheran Church,
the Oliver Tractor Club,
The Moose Lodge, Elks
Club and the Eagles Club.
Richard is survived by
his sister, Patricia Uhlir;
sisters in law, Pat Novak,
Catherine Opland, Irene
Dostert and Patricia
Lesmeister; and numerous
nieces, nephews and
cousins.
He was preceded in
death by his wife; parents;
brother, James Novak;
in-laws, Joseph Dostert,
Raymond Dostert, Edwin
Dostert, Anna Schan, An-
thony Dostert and Frances
Price.
Funeral Service: Mon-
day, August 15, 2022 at
10:30 a.m. at First Luth-
eran Church, Minot.
Visitation: One hour
prior to the service at the
Church.
Final Resting Place:
Rosehill Memorial Park,
Minot. The service will be
livestreamed for the pub-
