Jack Johnson

Jan. 2, 1958 – Aug. 2, 2022

Jack Johnson, 64, of

Minot lay down to rest

and was called to his

heavenly Father’s side on

August 2, 2022. He had

been struggling with a

hereditary heart condition

and diabetes for many

years.

Jackie Albert Johnson

was born on January 2,

1958 in Minot to Harlan

and Ramona (Degenstein)

Johnson. Bumper, his

family nickname, was

raised in the King’s Court

area west of Minot and at-

tended a little white

schoolhouse (Harrison

School) prior to graduat-

ing from Des

Lacs-Burlington High

School in 1976.

Jack and Kevin McKin-

stry met in 1983 and were

legally married on July 18,

2016 at the Ward County

Courthouse. They were

never apart until the very

end. Jack had several oc-

cupations before finding

his true calling as a baker.

This led to his forever job

at Edgewood Vista Retire-

ment Home in 1998.

Jack collected roosters,

Pillsbury Dough Boys, an-

tiques and his favorite

Frankoma Pottery. He en-

joyed secondhand stores,

garage sales, auctions and

karaoke. He was a proud

partner in the LGBTQ+

movement and society

helping change to come

from within. He men-

tored and counseled many

young men and women

who were struggling

which led to many

life-long friendships.

Bumper is so very loved

by everyone who ever met

him. He was a natural

comedian and could make

anyone laugh and smile.

He is going to be missed

by everyone who ever

called him friend. Jack

will always be with us be-

cause his light can never

be diminished by distance

or time.

Jack is survived by his

husband: Kevin McKin-

stry; mother: Mona John-

son, sister: Julie King;

nieces: Katie and Emily

King and many aunts, un-

cles and cousins. He was

preceded in death by his

father: Harlan Johnson,

and many other relatives.
